Hi there! I’m Desserae, or Des to many who know me. My pen name is just D.K. to make it easy to remember. The K stands for Kelly, in case you’re wondering. My first trilogy is sci-fi dystopian, and my next-up project is a fantasy series that combines elements of science fiction. My characters are the heart of my books, but they see plenty of action, suspense, and mystery!
The mountains are a prominent feature of the Reckoning of Anecor Trilogy. I am a big fan of mountain environments. I was born in Montana, raised in Illinois (no mountains there!), lived in the German Alps, and now call the Olympic Peninsula my home. I live on an island, with views of the Cascades out my front windows and the Olympic Mountains a short drive from home.
I get outdoors whenever I can, heading for mountain trails or beach strolls. Nature is my happy place. I have been known to hug trees and lay down in the grass or on a fallen tree.
I also love to travel! I spent five and a half years living in an RV and traveling around the western U.S. with my bestie and four cats (yes, four!). I head overseas as much as possible. I have been fortunate to visit culturally rich places like Egypt, Turkey, and Italy, and breathtakingly beautiful places like Iceland, Switzerland, and Norway. My adventures, whether into the mountains nearby or in far-off countries, fuel my imagination.
I am also an avid reader and have been for as long as I remember. I enjoy curling up with a good fantasy novel on a rainy PNW day, but I also love a good non-fiction travelogue or adventure. And you can be sure that no matter what I’m reading, one of my cats is right there with me. But I’m not complaining! Cats and books seem to go hand-in-hand, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
